CPSC Recalls Douglas Plush Toys

Yet another recall notice has been issued due to a potential choking hazard, this time involving Douglas Plush Toys, a popular children’s toy. So far the recall notice includes about 25,000 of the toys, according to the U.S. Consumer Safety Commission. More specifically, the recall includes three different versions of the plush toy, including Chewie the English Bulldog, Oliver the Bear and Charlotte the Fox “sold at specialty toy and gift stores nationwide from July 2014 to April 2017.” The toys have also been distributed “by United Healthcare Children's Foundation to individuals and organizations.”

But how dangerous can a plush toy really be? What feature on the toy poses such a choking hazard that a recall was issued because of it? Well, it turns out the “plastic eyes can detach, which causes a potential choking hazard” for small children.

Because of the choking hazard, the U.S. Consumer Safety Commission is urging parents to take action. The commission recently said, “consumers should immediately take the recalled plush toys away from young children and contact the firm to receive a free replacement product or full refund.”

Fortunately, only reports of the “eyes detaching or loosening have been reported.” No injuries or choking instances have been reported so far. Parents who would like more information about the recall can contact Douglas Co. at 800-276-4029 from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. ET Monday through Friday, or go to www.douglastoys.com and click on Product Recall.
