Amazon Recalls Certain Mattresses Over Fire Hazard Concerns

If you recently bought a new mattress, you may want to check the label. Earlier this week, Amazon issued a recall for more than 15,000 mattresses because they may pose a fire hazard. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the recall involves the AmazonBasics Memory Foam Mattresses. The recall notice states the mattresses “fail to meet the mandatory federal flammability standard for mattresses.”

The affected mattresses were sold from April 2020 to March 2021 and were “manufactured in twin, full, queen, king and California king sizes.” All of the mattresses have ‘amazonbasics’ printed on the foot panel, and ‘Amazon.com Services Inc.’ is “marked as the importer on the recalled mattresses.” Fortunately, there have been no injuries or incidents linked to the affected mattresses. For now, Amazon is contacting customers and offering to “arrange for direct shipment of a cover for consumers to place over the mattresses.” The company claims the mattresses will “bring the mattresses into compliance."On Amazon’s website, the company stated:“When we learn of a recall, we stop all impacted product offerings and hold any related stock in our Fulfillment Centers…We also contact customers that bought such products and sellers that may have offered such products, to tell them about the recall.”
